Coco Martin started receiving awards and nominations from various award-giving bodies early on in his career. He graced the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 and 2009 for his movie, Serbis (2008) and Kinatay (2009). And because of this, he was named as the “Prince of Philippine Independent Films” which is just one out of the number of titles and awards that he received – titles such as King of Philippine Primetime Teleseryes, Box-Office King, and King of Philippine Independent Films to name a few.

And just last April 17, 2016 in the recently-concluded 47th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s Box-Office Entertainment Awards, the award-winning and multi-talented actor was dubbed as the “Phenomenal Star of Philippine Cinema” for his Star Cinema movie, Beauty and the Bestie.

He shared the award with his Beauty and the Bestie co-actor, Vice Ganda (and A Second Chance’s John Lloyd Crus & Bea Alonzo). In his acceptance speech, he offered his sincerest and heartfelt gratitude to Direk Wenn Deramas and to everyone who supported and helped him in making the box-office hit movie:

Despite the Phenomenal Box-Office Star title being a first to the Primetime King, the GMMSF-BOEA has been consistently recognizing Coco Martin’s popularity and success in the past years – (2010) 41st Guillermo Mendoza Awards’Promising Male Box Office Star; (2011) 42nd Guillermo Mendoza Awards –
Prince of Philippine Movies for Sa’yo Lamang; (2012) 43rd Guillermo Mendoza Awards’ Prince of Philippine Television – Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin; (2013) 44th Box Office Entertainment Awards’ Prince and Princess of Philippine Television (shared with Julia Montes).

While in addition to the “Phenomenal” title, his top-rating Primetime teleserye, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, received a special “Highest Record Television Rating by a Primetime Teleserye of All Time” award from GMMSF-BOEA. Accepting the special award alongside Coco Martin are FPJ Ang Probinsyano’s Makmak, Onyok, Ms Dagang Vilbar (Production Manager) and Direk Malu Sevilla.

The 47th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box-Office Entertainment Awards (GMMSF-BOEA) is a part of the annual awards in the Philippines held in Metro Manila. The award-giving body honors Filipino actors, actresses and other performers’ commercial success, regardless of artistic merit, in the Philippine entertainment industry.
