MANILA – Arjo Atayde turned a little emotional as he dedicated his acting award to his “Ang Probinsyano” co-star Coco Martin.
Atayde was named the Teleserye Supporting Actor of the Year for his performance in the ABS-CBN primetime series during the PEP List Awards on Sunday.
In his acceptance speech, Atayde thanked the ABS-CBN management as well as his family, relatives and friends for continuously believing in what he can do.
He likewise recalled an incident which happened three years ago that led him to where he is now.
“Before I end this speech of mine, there’s just one last person I want to thank. Three years ago, it was the Star Magic Ball, he was being escorted by marshals and the marshals didn’t know who I was because I was really new. So I stepped aside, and this guy goes, ‘Wait a minute.’ He called me out and he goes, ‘You know what? Nagagalingan ako sa ‘yo. One day, magkakatrabaho tayo,’” he started.
Three years later, Atayde shared that he was supposed to join three different TV projects, all of which unfortunately did not work for him.
“I was wondering why I was pulled out? Do I have a problem? I was wondering and all of a sudden they said, ‘You’re a part of Probinsyano,’” he said. “Three years later, they just told me there is a story con. I opened the door and then Coco Martin goes up to me, hugs me and tells me ‘This is what I promised you.’ I dedicate this award to him.”
In an interview with ABS-CBN News after receiving the award, Atayde said he would use this recognition to motivate him and improving as an actor.
“I still have to prove myself worthy of this award. That’s my challenge. We’ll see how it goes,” he said.
Atayde said he is just privileged to be part of the show.
“I am learning from all these people, from all the actors and actresses of the show. They help me a lot. I don’t need to act. I just look at them in the eyes, I know what they’re trying to tell me, what they want me to do, how they see me and my character. We work around it. We always talk about it,” he said.
“Ang Probinsyano” airs on ABS-CBN every weeknights after “TV Patrol.”
Meanwhile, after Arjo Atayde’s win in the PEP List Award, the one and only Idol ng Masa instantly showed his support and pride for his co-actor in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as he posted about Arjo’s acting award in his personal Instagram account (@mr.cocomartin):
