As someone who grew up under the care of his grandmother, it’s no wonder that Kapamilya actor Coco Martin has a deep relationship with his grandmother Matilde. The actor has always been vocal about his love for her in his past interviews.
During the bloggers’ conference for his latest endorsement, Ajinomoto’s Sarsaya Oyster Sauce on Thursday, February 23, the primetime actor revealed that he dreams of building a restaurant for his grandmother given that his family loves bonding over food.
“’Yung family ko talagang mahilig magluto. Mula sa lola ko, sa papa ko, sa mama ko, pati sa mga kapatid ko. ‘Yun po ‘yung siguro, isa sa mga mapagmamalaki namin,” he said, sharing that his grandmother used to be a cook at a cockpit in La Loma, Quezon City.
Saying that it was his grandmother who trained them about food early on, he said, “Ang pangarap ko po sana balang araw, mapatayuan ko ng restaurant ‘yung lola ko at ipapangalan ko sa kanya—Matilde. Pangarap lang naman ‘yun. Sana matupad.”
Recounting more childhood memories with his beloved lola, Coco said that as young as nine years old, he would wake up early in the morning to accompany her to a wet market in Blumentritt. He would also help her clean everything they bought. “From Monday to Saturday, bonding time ‘yun. Every morning. Ako ka-kwentuhan ng lola ko,” he said.
“Feeling ko blessed ako kasi na-experience ko ‘yung mga gano’ng bagay. Kasi importante ‘yun, eh, Lalong lalo na para sa akin bilang lalaki… I’m sure lahat ng mga lumaki sa lolo’t lola, makakarelate po sa akin,” Coco further added after sharing how his lola also trained him to do household chores.
Meanwhile, Coco remains on top his game with the primetime action series, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
According to him, more revelations on the show will be revealed. “Lahat na ng rebelasyon ay dire-diretso na pong irereveal and then talagang mas lalo pa po naming pinaiigting ‘yung kwento. Marami pa po kaming mga artistang ige-guest.”
