Last May 2, 2015, Saturday, the longest-running drama anthology in Asia continued in paying tribute to the Philippines’ 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos with the second installment of their two-part special. It was dubbed as “Watawat” and was equipped with an ensemble cast – Coco Martin, Angel Locsin, Ejay Falcon, Malou De Guzman, Rita Avila, Maricar Reyes and a lot more.
In the aforementioned Maalaala Mo Kaya special tribute, it was seen how Garry Erana (Coco Martin) and Rennie Tayrus’ (Ejay Falcon) friendship in SAF was built. Their motivation on working for the country was made more apparent and, their true and final battle transpired when they bravely helped each other to succeed in their mission for the sake of protecting the Filipino people.
The story provided aplenty of heart-wrenching sequences. Such was when the soldiers, who won the viewers’ hearts with their strong desire and passion to serve for the country, was seen brutally killed in the Mamasapano clash. Plus, tears further flowed when the soldiers’ family and loved ones were seen grieving in front of their caskets and grave.
The second-part of the MMK special tribute rated nationwide with 31.9% (vs. Magpakailanman’s 21.8%) per Kantar Media. In addition, it trended on Twitter -worldwide.
